The application of dental technologies or devices that subsumes digital or computer-controlled elements to execute dental procedures instead of using mechanical or electrical equipment is termed Digital dentistry. The use of digital dentistry can accomplish dental procedures more efficient than using mechanical tools, both for restorative as diagnostic purposes. French professor François Duret, who invented dental CAD/CAM in 1973 are known as 'Godfather' of Digital Dentistry.
